The number people who died in heat wave that swept India in the past hours hit 800, said the BBC.
Hospitals were put on alert to treat victims of heatstroke and authorities advised people to stay indoors, with no end in sight to the searing conditions.
India’s Meteorological Department said it had issued heat warnings to several states where temperatures reached 50 and were forecast to reach 45 degrees over the next few days.
