At least six people were killed when a fire broke out in the biggest vegetable market in Nepali capital Kathmandu late Saturday night, police said.

"We have recovered six bodies from the market but no one has been identified, a person seriously injured has been taken to the hospital," Deputy Superintendent of Police Tek Bahadur Tamang to Xinhua.

Tamang said that the fire broke out about 10 p.m. local time on Saturday. The police has said that the fire was apparently caused by short circuit.

A fire that broke out Saturday night in the biggest vegetable market in Nepali capital Kathmandu has killed six people.

Talking to Xinhua on Sunday, Deputy Superintendent of Police ( DSP) Tek Bahadur Tamang said that the police are busy with rescue for the people who might have been trapped inside the market.

"The fire that broke out at 10 PM on Saturday has come under control however fire at some places inside the market is still going on," Tamang said.

"We have recovered six bodies from the market but no one has been identified, a person seriously injured has been taken to the hospital," Tamang said.

"Seven fire brigades were used to control the fire," he added.

The police has said that the fire was apparently caused by short circuit.
