At least six people were killed and many injured when a seven-storey building collapsed in Santa Cruz in Mumbai's western suburbs Friday morning, said Indian police. Earlier, police identified one of the deceased as Sudha Shridharan, a 32-year-old woman. Fortunately, the building was vacant except that some people were living on the ground floor, but the debris hit a nearby slum, said police. An eviction notice was issued for dilapidated condition of the building, called Shankar Lok, in 2007. Building collapse takes place from time to time in Mumbai. Last April, a building collapsed and 74 people died in Mumbai's satellite town of Thane.
