Three militants have been killed in a special operation in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, a local law enforcement source told TASS.
“Preliminarily, three militants were killed. All of them hid in a well-fortified basement of a house. One body has already been retrieved. Identification is underway. Two others are under the debris. Work to clear the debris will be continued in the morning,” the source said.
The operation was held in the village of Vremenny in central Dagestan.
Russia’s law enforcement agencies continue fighting militants in Dagestan over 13 years since the battle phase of the second war against Islamist separatists in the neighboring Chechnya came to an end in 2000. Attacks on security officials and civilians occur from time to time in Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria.
