A fire is under control after an explosion on three light crude tanks early on Saturday morning in Yan'an City, northwest China's Shaanxi Province, said rescuers. As of 11 a.m., firefighters had put out the blaze on two of the tanks and controlled the fire on the other, which was the one that suffered the explosion, said rescuers. The incident occurred at 1:48 a.m., burning three people at the refinery plant of Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group. The injured were taken to a local hospital. There was heavy smoke and a pungent smell at the site. No crude has been found leaking directly from the tanks while some water with a little crude went into the nearby Huluhe River. No excessive petroleum material has been monitored in the nearby region. Rescuers were conducting cooling measures on the tanks and set up seven intercept dams at upper reaches of the nearby Huluhe River and Luohe River reaches to prevent pollution risks. Local government authorities have relocated 300 residents. Investigations into the accident are under way.
