Two Israeli soldiers were killed on Monday afternoon in a clashes with Gaza militants, in addition to the seven previously reported, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement released on Tuesday.
The statement said that two soldiers were killed by sniper fire, adding that throughout Monday night and early Tuesday seven Israeli soldiers were injured, including three in serious condition.
Overall, 27 soldiers and officers have been killed since Israel 's ground incursion into the Gaza Strip Thursday night, and two Israeli civilians were killed by rocket attacks throughout the week.
The IDF said in another statement that since the start of the ground operation, the IDF discovered 66 access shafts to 23 Gaza tunnels. In addition, since Operation Protective Edge started on July 8, more than 2,925 targets were struck.
