Dubai - Arabstoday

A truck driver has been placed under provisional detention shortly after he jumped a red signal, rammed a minibus, killed two men and injured nine others in Al Qouz, Gulf News has learnt. A number of pedestrians chased down the 39-year-old Pakistani driver and prevented him from running away when he tried to do so from the accident site, according to Senior Chief Traffic Prosecutor, Salah Bu Farousha, Head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution. “A number of eyewitnesses alleged that they spotted the driver jumped a red signal before he collided with the minibus, that carried eleven Asian workers, around 8:00pm. According to primary investigations that were conducted by Traffic Prosecutor Ammar Al Dhanhani, the accident happened due to the reckless and inattentive driving of the Pakistani. Eyewitnesses said they saw him jumped the red signal and rammed into the minibus. Two men were killed and the nine others sustained critical injuries,” Bu Farousha told Gulf News late this evening. When he jumped out of the truck, according to Bu Farousha, and tried to run away, a few pedestrians chased him down and restrained him. The witnesses kept hold of the driver until police came and took him in for questioning. “The driver has been placed under provisional detention. He will be questioned for his liability of causing the accident. According to primary interrogations, he faces preliminary charges of jumping a red signal, driving recklessly, causing deaths and injuries to road users and wrecking the minibus and the truck. However the investigation continues and we will wait for the technical committee’s report to know the main causes of this tragic and horrific accident,” Bu Farousha concluded. Another accident Bu Farousha further said a 21-year-old asian motorcyclist died late this evening after he had an accident at 4:30pm when he lost control over his motorcycle and hit lamppost at World Trade Centre Roundabout. The driver and a 23-year-old passenger, who sat behind the motorcyclist, we're rushed to hospital. The driver succumbed to his injuries later in the evening meanwhile the 23-year-old sustained serious injuries, said Bu Farousha. From: Gulfnews
