
Two men with rifles opened fire in a Detroit barbershop known for gambling, killing two people and wounding seven others Wednesday evening, police said. City Police Chief James Craig said several shots were fired after the gunmen "engaged a couple of victims" at Al's Barber Shop about 6:15 p.m., The Detroit News reported. Police said it wasn't known what prompted the shooting in the strip mall barbershop or whether any of the victims fired any weapons, the newspaper said. Witnesses told the News two men burst through a rear door with assault rifles, spraying the people inside with bullets. "Someone owed someone petty money," a witness who said he was in the shop when the shooting started told the newspaper. The condition of those who were injured wasn't known. Investigators said they were looking for two males. One was driving a white 2004 Impala, possibly with a rear window shot out by gunfire, and a black 2004 Impala. WWJ-AM, Detroit, reported police initially said three people had died but later revised the number downward to two. The station also had reported the site of the shooting as Rockies Hair And Nail Salon.
