More than 100 Taliban fighters have been killed over the past three days across conflict-ridden Afghanistan, according to Ministry of Interior statements released here on Sunday and Monday.
The cleanup operations, according to the statement of Interior Ministry, began on Saturday and have so far left 108 militants dead.
In the latest statement sent to media outlets on Monday, the Interior Ministry reported killing 74 Taliban fighters over the past 24 hours throughout Afghanistan.
"Units of police backed by the national army have raided Taliban hideouts in several provinces over the past 24 hours, leaving 74 armed insurgents dead," the statement of the Ministry for Interior released here Monday morning contended.
According to the statement, 36 more Taliban fighters sustained injuries and five others arrested during the operations.
The statement didn't say if there were casualties on security personnel.
A day earlier on Sunday, the Interior Ministry in its statement said 34 Taliban insurgents were killed across the country in operations began on Saturday.
"Afghan police backed by the army have killed 34 Taliban militants during series of operations across the conflict-ridden country over the past 24 hours," the statement said.
During the operations which had been conducted in parts of Nangarhar, Baghlan, Kunduz, Balkh, Wardak, Logar, Paktika and Ghor provinces, 16 more militants had been injured and 11 others made captive, according to the statement.
The statements didn't mention the casualties of the security personnel over the period.
Meanwhile, the Taliban militants who launched their so-called spring offensive on May 12 have claimed killing scores of security personnel over the past three days beginning from Saturday, a claim rebuffed by security officials as groundless.
