Emmanuel Badu celebrates the last goal Accra - Arabstoday Ghana kept their hopes alive of playing in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with a stunning 4-0 win against Sudan in Accra on Sunday. In a commanding display, UAE club al-Ain's Asamoah Gyan opened the scoring for Ghana in the 19th minute when he tapped in from close range. Midfielder Mubarak Wakaso doubled the lead six minutes before the break as the hosts took control. Gyan was forced to come off the pitch with a suspected ankle problem in the 50th minute, and the changes led to more goals. Forward Abdul Majeed Waris, making his debut and playing as lone striker after Gyan's withdrawal, headed in the third goal on 79 minutes. Gyan's replacement, Emmanuel Badu got his name on the scoresheet just five minutes later, with an easy tap-in after Sudan's defence was carved open. Gyan's goal tally for Ghana currently stands at 32 from 71 caps while Mubarak Wakaso has 7 goals in 10 caps for his country. The Black Stars remain second in Group D with six points, just one point behind leaders Zambia, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Lesotho. The group winners will advance to a decisive two-legged playoff that will determine Africa's five representatives at next year's World Cup in Brazil.
