Beirut - Nna

The European Union{EU} while taking note of Palestinian desire at joining the United Nations, prefers a constructive solution to the conflict deemed possible only through the resumption of peace talks between Palestinians and Israelis, EU State Secretary Catherine Ashton announced today. She reiterated that any such "constructive solution" necessarily leads to the desired final outcome. Responding to Palestinian Authority PA President Mahmoud Abbass' adamant demand for full Palestinian membership at the UN, EU spokeswoman Maya Cozianic preconditioned any final conflict-resolution based on the 2-state solution on what she termed as "perceptive in-depth examination of Palestinian demand deadline." She however predicted pretty decisive dates ahead. Cozianic added that the International Quartet would double efforts for a negotiated settlement through resumed peace talks and reminded the Palestinians of EU subsidies aimed at sustaining their infrastructures. In Ottawa, Canadian PM Stephan Harrier echoed Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu by condoning the US-Israeli position saying Canada would exercise its veto power against prospective PA joining of the UN since in Netanyahu's words "any unilateral action by the PA is deemed as a grave act which shall never bring permanent peace to the Middle East.
