Yemen's security forces in al-Baida province on Wednesday repelled an al-Qaeda terrorist attack which targeted several governmental buildings in the city centre, according to a Yemeni security source.
The sa e source told the Yemeni News Agency "Sabaa" that al-Qaeda elements had carried out a surprise assault on Al-Baida city from several directions in a bid to take over the province's security administration, the special forces camp, the Political Security and other governmental buildings by means of booby-trapped cars followed by violent clashes ensuing between these terrorist elements and Yemeni security men.
The source added that the security men forestalled the plot and smashed the terrorist elements, inflicting gross losses on them, affirming that none of security units had fallen in the hands of the defeated al-Qaeda terrorists, and that the fleeing terrorists are still being pursued.
