Bahrainis are being urged to vote massively in the parliamentary and municipal elections, scheduled to be held on November 22. "The upcoming polls will usher in a defining chapter in the history of modern Bahrain", Writer and journalist Sawsan Al-Shaer said, calling upon women in particular to come out in force and cast their ballots.
She was addressing a forum held at Bapco Club in Awali under the theme : "The Role of Bahraini Women in the Parliamentary and Municipal Elections". The Southern Governorate organised the symposium in cooperation with the Supreme Council for Women. The event was attended by Deputy Southern Governor Faisal bin Rashid Al-Nuaimi, MPs, Shura Council members and candidates running in the 2014 polls.
Known for her daily column "Last Word", Ms. Al-Shaer urged a massive participation to ensure a high turn-out in the upcoming elections. "Each ballot will count, especially women who represent 49.7 percent of the electoral bloc which includes 350,000 voters", she said. Addressing the forum, she underscored the importance of participating massively in the upcoming elections and voting against those who are active in Bahrain and abroad and get support.
"The upcoming elections will give Bahrainis the opportunity to elect their representatives and show whether they are free citizens, who have the will to decide their future, or mere followers of a group which serves a dubious agenda", she said, stressing the importance of electing the most eligible and competent candidates.
The lecturer described the forthcoming elections as representing a crucial referendum for the free people of Bahrain to exercise their constitutional right and debunk the self-proclaimed representatives of Bahrain, who meet foreign delegations and claim that they have the majority. Ms. Al-Shaer urged voters to participate massively in the upcoming elections and vote for those who didn’t pay heed to the calls to boycott the polls, especially in the Northern and Capital Governorates.
