
Sudan government indicated that the visit of the former Vice - President of South Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar, to Khartoum would be for the interest of peace and stability in his country.
This was expressed by the Foreign Minister, Ali Karti, in a press statement he gave Sunday.
He said that Sudan have a great interest in the return of stability in South Sudan State.
He said that the visit of Dr. Machar is part of visits which were agreed upon with the IGAD member states and South Sudan State.
Karti stressed that Sudan have no interest in continuation of the war in South Sudan and supporting one party against the other.
He said that it is for the benefit of Sudan that both the dispute parties in South Sudan achieve a peace agreement shortly, adding that Dr. Riek Machar has lately visited a number of IGAD member states.
He said that the efforts being done by the IGAD would be successful to convince the disputing parties about the importance of peace and return to dialogue for reaching a final solution for the problem.
Karti indicated that the IGAD member countries agreed to allow Dr. Machar to visit them with the aim to listen to his point of view and also to assure the stance of the IGAD countries that peace is the sole means for solve the disputes between the people of South Sudan.
On the United States' refuse to invite Sudan to take part at the first American - African summit, Karti said " this is an American stance … we inquire what is new … we know the American stands … it was abnormal that Africa qccepts to go to this meeting while one of its very important members was not invited for such a meeting".
