The second deputy speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Hasan Khreisha, came under attack this Thursday morning near his home in Tulkarem. Unknown gunmen reportedly opened fire on the Mercedes carrying Khreisa, with four bullets hitting the vehicle as he travelled from his home to his office.
He told PNN this was not merely a warning signal for him to remain silent but "an assassination attempt". He highlighted this as being the first such incident in Tulkarem, especially noteworthy given he came under attack in a secure zone only 200m from Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah's home.
Khreisha added "I will carry on. They will not succeed in silencing my voice". He later told MADA "it seems that my straightforwardness has angered some politicians". Dr Khraishe is well known for his opposition to Palestinian Authority policies.
