The United Arab Emirates and Tajikistan today discussed ways of advancing bilateral relations to translate the already privileged ties between the two friendly nations into more impressive successive on the ground.

This came during meetings of the 3rd session of the Joint UAE-Tajikistan Committee at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Mohammed Sharaf Al Hashemi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, who headed the UAE delegation to the meeting underlined the importance the UAE is attaching to growing partnership relations with Tajikistan to the higher good of both peoples.

He lauded the outcome of the 2nd edition of the joint committee which convened in Tajikistan on April 21st-22nd, primarily the fruitful efforts made following the meetings by Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry and his visit to Dushanbe on October 19-20.

Al Hashemi highlighted also the political negotiations held by the two countries on March 20th as well as the bilateral deliberations on forging bilateral agreements to stimulate trade and investment and avoid double taxation.

Al Hashemi noted the possibility of accelerating trade exchange between the two countries, specially across an array of products and commodities, primarily, iron, plastics and ceramics, referring to the importance of the Tajiki authorities utilising the strategic location boasted by the UAE as a main export gate to MENA in areas of logistics, transportation and re-export services.

He underlined the importance of the civil aviation sectors in the two countries, being a strong catalyst for economic growth in areas of tourism, commerce and investment to the common good of both nations.

For his part, Qahar Zada, the head of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of the Republic of Tajikistan, who represented his country during the meeting highlighted the role played by the regular visits by the two countries officials in propelling bilateral relations, citing in this regard the state visit paid by the Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to the UAE in March 2016.

The highly technological potential boasted by the UAE can be best utilised and reconciled with the remarkable human and natural resources enjoyed by Tajikistan to create conducive environment for economic and trade cooperation between the two friendly countries, he added.

In the meantime, and on the sidelines of the committee proceedings, a meeting was held grouping together officials from Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Tajik delegation who lauded the fund’s financing of the construction of Kulob-Kalaikhumb road project in Tajikistan- a development which will increase the flow of passengers and goods and improve the movement of cargoes between Tajikistan and neighboring nations.

The two sides discussed ways of further accelerating cooperation ties across multiple domains.
