Tunis - TAP

The Crisis Response Unit, chaired by interim Premier Mehdi Jomaa, focused, Saturday, on the state of affairs on the Tunisia-Libya border.
It also examined means to implement "bottom-up" organisational steps taken to secure borders as well as health and humanitarian measures, particularly in the border crossing of Ras Jedir.
Likewise, the Crisis Response Unit dwelt on "security precautions to prevent terrorist threats."
Jomaa said there will be no refugee camps in the Tunisian territory and underlined the need to coordinate with international organisations and the Libyans so as bring people together on the Libyan side and make available the necessary health and logistical support, a press release of the Unit indicated.
The same source said the interim Prime Minister emphasised the necessity of "further investigating those wishing to enter the country via the border crossings of Ras Jedir and Dehiba, increasing personal searches on everyone and carefully checking documents."
In this vein, he directed to "keep on facilitating the entry of diplomats and members of diplomatic missions bound for Ras Jedir from Libya after coordination with embassies, through official diplomatic channels, and ensure their transit so that they leave the national territory with the desired celerity."
Besides, Jomaa recommended "to control the flow of passengers between Ras Jedir and Dehiba, according to its density," while "allowing in foreign nationals transiting on the national territory and guaranteeing further coordination with the concerned parties to provide necessary means of transport."
In this connection, he called for "coordinating with the Transport Ministry so as to carry people who entered the Tunisian territory, on foot, through border crossings to their destinations."
Additionally, Jomaa underlined the need to "beef up outposts in military zones with the needed material and human resources," "greenlight medical evacuations from Libya while reinforcing control and search" and "equip border posts with ambulances to carry the sick in the national territory."
"Closing temporarily the border post of Ras Jedir on Friday afternoon helped control and further organise the traffic and take the necessary measures to secure borders, particularly controlling the influx and completing legal procedures," the Crisis Response Unit pointed up.
In this respect, the interim PM underlined the importance of "increasing efforts of medical assistance and humanitarian relief."
Moreover, he decided to convene a meeting on Saturday between the Unit and the Central Bank of Tunisia, the directorate general of Customs and that of Borders and Foreigners to take immediate and necessary measures consisting in declaring foreign currency and other precious items and presenting the declaration nationwide whenever required.
Besides, Jomaa called for speeding up the evacuation of people coming from Libya and stepping up coordination with Egypt to establish an air and sea bridge for the efficient evacuation of its nationals.
The Interior, National Defence, Foreign Affairs, Justice, Transport, Social affairs and Health Ministers along with the Minister Delegate in charge of Security attended the Crisis Response Unit meeting.
