The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA, represented by the Information and Communication Technology Fund, ICT Fund, signed a cooperation agreement today with Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, MBRSC, to provide scholarships for UAE students to pursue their advanced studies.

The agreement coincides with the UAE Innovation Week, which is being celebrated from 20-26 November. It stipulates providing scholarships for a group of students to pursue their undergraduate studies in the country, in addition to scholarships for two students to continue their postgraduate studies outside the country.

The programmes included, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Communication Engineering, Physics, Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Space Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Optics.

On the occasion, Majed Al Mesmar, Acting Director-General of TRA, said, "We are pleased to establish a partnership with Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center, and to work together to develop Emirati competencies in this field, which is vital and has a strategic significance for the future of the UAE. This agreement reflects the vision of our wise leadership in enhancing the UAE’s leading position in all areas, and its eagerness to accelerate the achievement of the objectives through coordination as well as fruitful and constructive interaction between different government entities on the state level."

He added, "We live in the era of telecommunications and information technology. This means that the technology has an active key role in all fields, which applies perfectly on the Emirates Mars Mission project where the national competencies play a major role in turning this dream into reality."

Mona Al Qemzi, Assistant Director-General for Corporate Support at MBRSC extended her gratitude and appreciation to the TRA, noting the importance of this step in contributing to the promotion and development of space and advanced technology in the country. "The agreement is in line with the efforts of official bodies and institutions at the state level aimed to establish a future generation of Emirati scientists and to contribute to the implementation of the UAE trends in building an economy based on knowledge and innovation," she said.
