Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh was re-elected on Sunday in a vote that followed the opening of the legislature's second ordinary session by His Majesty King Abdullah.
Tarawneh easily defeated three other lawmakers who ran for the speaker's post.
The incumbent won 79 votes in the 150-member House during the balloting, well ahead of his closest contender, Amjad Majali, who secured 28 votes. The other two candidates were Mufleh Rheimi and Haditha Khreisha, who won 23 and 13 votes, respectively. Three paper ballots were annulled and two were blank, according to officials.
