Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

The State Security Court of the UAE Federal Supreme Court has rejected, during today’s session that was presided over by Judge Mohammed Al Jarrah Al Tunaiji, six separate appeals by six individuals who were convicted of various crimes in previous cases, which relate to state security and were presented to the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court that issued various verdicts in their cases.

With these rejections, the verdicts issued by the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court are final and cannot be appealed.

The State Security Court rejected an appeal by Iranian "S. M. A. M." and confirmed the previous verdict issued by the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court of 10 years imprisonment while obligating him to pay judicial expenses and deportation him from the country after serving his sentence, after he was convicted of sharing intelligence with Iran, and importing electricity generators and devices used in the Iranian nuclear programme from the United Kingdom, and attempting to illegally re-export these devices to Iran.

The court also rejected an appeal by Emirati "M. S. E. N." and confirmed the verdict issued by the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court of 10 years imprisonment while confiscating communication devices, computers and mobile phones and obligating him to pay judicial expenses, after he was convicted of joining the terrorist organisation, Daesh, in Syria and establishing a social media site to promote their ideas and encourage the youth to join them, as well as insulting the country and its symbols through these sites.

In the third case, the court rejected appeals by two individuals, who are citizens of a Gulf country, and confirmed the sentence of the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court of three years imprisonment, a fine of AED500,000 each, and deportation from the country after serving their sentences, after they were convicted of airing a video through "Whatsapp" promoting sectarian phrases and mottos used by the Iraqi Popular Crowd Forces and Iranian militias in Iraq, to instigate hatred.

In the fourth case, the court rejected an appeal by Sudanese "A. S. E. E." who was sentenced by the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court to two years imprisonment and deportation from the country after serving his sentence while obligating him to pay judicial expenses, after he was convicted of joining various terrorist organisations in Syria and Iraq and establishing social media sites to promote the ideas of these organisations and urge people to join them, as well as for insulting the UAE’s and Saudi Arabia’s policies through articles and videos.

In the fifth case, the court rejected an appeal by Emirati "F. A. E. M." who was sentenced by the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court to five years imprisonment while confiscating his devices and obligating him to pay judicial expenses, after he was convicted of joining the banned secret organisation, the Muslim Brotherhood, and subverting the principles of the country’s ruling establishment.

In the sixth case, the court rejected an appeal by Emirati "E. A. A. Y." who was sentenced by the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court to five years imprisonment while confiscating the devices he was apprehended with and obligating him to pay judicial expenses after he was convicted of joining Daesh in Syria.
