A state of calm prevailed in Al Tahrir Square in central Cairo since morning amid the presence of dozens of protesters before the start of events “Checkmate” Friday which was called by a number of Egyptian political coalitions to demand the completion of the objectives of the revolution and the overthrow of the regime, the formation of a national presidential council and dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood group. Entrance and exits of Al Tahrir Square were closed to automobile traffic amid the absence of the popular committees in charge of securing the Square. The “Checkmate” demonstrations coincided with the “together against violence” Friday, called by al Jamaat al Islamiya and he Construction and Development Party at Al Nahdha Square near the University of Cairo.
