The re-demarcation of Egypt’s cities is not only aimed at creating administrative borders but to establish an organized urban expansion to accommodate the population increase, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said on Monday.
The move also aims to reclaim the desert hinterland, set up parallel industries to achieve development and employ the youth, Sisi said during a meeting Monday with Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab and a number of governors.
Sisi underlined that land owners, whose lands will be in the way of new roads, will be compensated, presidential spokesman Ehab Badawi said.
