Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry
Cairo - MENA

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has stressed the importance of reaching a political solution to the Yemeni crisis in line with Security Council Resolution no. 2216.

Addressing the joint meeting of the foreign ministers and chiefs of staff of the coalition of restoring legitimacy in Yemen in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Sunday, the foreign minister warned against prevarication and attempts to wriggle out of responsibility towards terms of reference of resolving the Yemeni crisis.

He said the coalition countries are determined to go ahead with their campaign to restore legitimacy in Yemen and end its crisis.

The foreign minister pointed out to proposals floated by the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, to push forward the negotiations process and allow humanitarian aid to the Yemenis.

He said the stances of Egypt, like other coalition countries, are based on two principles, the first is rejecting any attempt to impose the status quo by force in Yemen, while the second is rejecting attempts to dodge responsibility.

He called the outlaws in Yemen to stop attempts to use Yemeni lands for threatening the region and world and using them as a launch pad to carry out terrorist operations.
