Morocco’s newly appointed Head of Government, Saad Eddine Othmani announced on Saturday evening the end of the five-long deadlock and the formation of the new coalition government.

During a press conference held this evening at the Justice and Development Party’s (PJD) headquarters, Othmani said the coalition will includes six parties.

In addition to the PJD, the coalition will include ministers from the National Rally of Independents (RNI), the Popular Movement (MP), the Constitutional Union (UC), the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) and the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP).

Surrounded by the six party leaders and his partisan colleague Mustapha Ramid, Othmani addressed the media saying: “Since King Mohammed VI appointed me as Head of Government to form the coalition government – I rushed to embark on negotiations.”

“I want to pay a tribute to Abdelilah Benkirane for the efforts he had made during his [futile] mission [to form the government,]” Othmani said. “I want also to thank him for his support.”

Othmani noted that during the beginning of his negotiations with other party leaders on Tuesday, he received all parties that represented in the parliament, except for the Federation of Democratic Left (FGD), which secured two seats during the legislative elections held on October 7, 2016.

“I received the parties that voiced their positions and desire to participate in the government and forming the government as soon as possible,” Othmani added.

The six parties included in the coalition government represent 240 seats out of 395 in the parliament.
