Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, QCC, has hosted a meeting of its Standing Technical Committee, STC, for Q3 2017.

At the meeting, STC members reviewed and endorsed a series of technical documents submitted by their working groups. They also discussed the progress achieved by the Council’s Standardisation Services department.

Responsible for harmonisation of technical standards in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the STC comprises delegates from various Abu Dhabi government entities as well as federal authorities.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdullah Hassan Al Muaini, Executive Director of Conformity Scheme Services at QCC, said, "QCC convenes regular meetings of the STC to review the progress of standardisation projects and discuss suggestions made by the working groups. These meetings demonstrate our commitment to adopting unified standards that accelerate sustainable development and support the UAE's ambition to be counted among the top five governments in the world."

Among the documents reviewed at the meeting were the Abu Dhabi 'green school' manual that aims to drive environmental awareness and responsibility among students, and enhance educators’ environmental knowledge. Aligned with the UAE's leading global efforts to embed sustainability in general and higher education sectors, the document defines the roles of all members of school communities in promoting sustainable use of natural resources.

Also on the agenda were environmental specifications for soil contamination, as developed by representatives of several government entities involved in the protection of the environment at the local and federal level, that regulate the use of land and soil.

The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council was established in 2009 to raise the quality of the emirate’s exports and locally traded products while protecting the interests of consumers and supporting the UAE’s competitive economy. QCC empowers regulators to establish and implement product safety, legal metrology and conformity schemes. The council also sets guidelines and benchmarks to verify that products manufactured and traded in Abu Dhabi conform to the highest quality standards.
