Prince Saud Al-Faisal, here to take part in the Conference on Security and Peace in Iraq, told the conference today that the threat now posed by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has surmounted the borders of both Iraq and the Levant, a development, he said, should be confronted by a collective spirit from the world community.
He said the conference comes amid critical political developments in Iraq, citing a recent past of violence and an imbalanced government and a current opportunity to keep hope glittering.
He added that we, all of us, have to provide the new government in Baghdad with everything that helps it go ahead with the required political reforms, including fairness, equality and prudent rule for the Iraqis within the institutional guarantees.
Prince Saud Al-Faisal demanded that the moderate rebel groups in Syria, who are fighting the Syrian brutal regime, should gain support of all of us to root out both Al-Assad's rule and the spreading ISIL into the Syrian territories, where it finds a safe haven to hit-and-run into Iraq or hide from the aerial shelling.
He called for the provision of more humanitarian assistance to the needy in the areas invaded by ISIL, citing the recent donation by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of $500 million to cover the humanitarian needs of the Iraqi people and vowing that the Saudi government would spare no effort to continue such assistance whenever need arises.
In conclusion, he called for the sustainability of the new international body designed to fight terrorism in a long battle that, he said, might continue for at least ten years.
