
President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika has paid tribute, Saturday morning at the Martyrs’ Square of Al-Alia cemetery in Algiers, to the memory of the martyrs of the National Liberation War (1st November 1954), of which the Algerian people celebrate the 60th anniversary.
After greeting a detachment of the Republican Guard which honored him, President Bouteflika laid a wreath in front of the memorial stele and recited Al-Fatiha of the Holy Quran in the memory of the shuhada (martyrs) before kissing the national flag.
The ceremony was attended by President of the Council of Nation Abdelkader Bensalah, the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa, Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal, President of the Constitutional Council Mourad Medelci as well as Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah, Deputy Minister for National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People's National Army.
Members of the government and the General Secretary of the National Mujahedeen (war veteran) Organization were also present in this ceremony.
