President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a delegation of the Arab and International Relations Council in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri on Thursday.
The delegation included former Lebanese prime minister Fouad Siniora, former Iraqi prime minster Ayad Allawi and council chairman Mohammed al-Saqr.
Sisi underlined the importance of adopting a unified Arab stance on the situation in Iraq and the Arab Mashreq in general, presidential spokesman Ehab Badawi said.
Efforts should be concerted to correct the misconception about Islam, Sisi said, stressing the importance of Al-Azhar's role in spreading the values of modesty and tolerance, the spokesman added.
