Polling stations closed Wednesday evening in Libya's parliamentary election, the second to be held since the ouster of strongman Muammar Gaddafi in a 2011 uprising.
Around 1.6 million voters were eligible to vote in the election that saw 1628 candidates contesting 200 parliamentary seats.
Only 400,000 voters, however, showed up at the polling stations by mid-day, according to the High National Elections Commission.
The commission said that 97 percent of the polling stations opened their doors for voters amid security problems.
Around 11,000 Libyans living outside the country cast their ballots in the election on Saturday and Sunday, while observers expect overall election turnout to reach 45 percent.
Libya has suffered from rising instability since Gaddafi's ouster in 2011.
