Prime Minister Sherif Ismail
Cairo - MENA

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail on Tuesday cautioned against fatwas issued by unqualified and unprofessional people leading to confusion in the society.

The premier stressed the necessity of regulating fatwas to achieve stability and promote peace, Awqaf Minister Mohammed Mokhtar Gomaa said in a speech on behalf of the premier during the International Fatwa Conference.

Scholars should join forces to counter extremist thoughts facing the society, Ismail said.

He highlighted the role of scholars in promoting moderate teachings of Islam in light of the latest developments witnessed by societies.

Terrorism has no religion or homeland, Ismail stressed, noting that it requires intensified international efforts to be uprooted.

Titled "The Role of Fatwa in Creating a Stable Society", the three-day conference is considered a milestone in Darul Iftaa’s history.

The event tackles a number of vital issues relating to Muslim minorities in western countries and covers the mannerism on how to prepare Imams to handle extremism and encounter the challenges facing Muslim communities.

Grand Imam of Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al Tayyeb, Egypt's Mufti Shawqi Allam and Secretary General of the Muslim World League (MWL) Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Issa inaugurated earlier in the day the conference, under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, with the participation of multi-regional delegations from 80 countries.
