Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah
New York - KUNA

Oman on Tuesday supported the international coalition against terrorism and extremism, while blaming Israel for stalemate of the Middle East peace process.
Omani Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, addressing the last day of the UN General Assemblyآ’s (UNGA) session, strongly condemned all acts of terrorism regardless of their motives and justifications, as well as condemning acts perpetrated by the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL).
He welcomed UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution 2178, designed to crack down on movement and finances of foreign terrorist fighters in the region.
Abdullah emphasized that a "unified position" by the international community would pave way for resolution of all crises in the Middle East, foremost the Palestinian cause "which, without doubt, lies at the center of conflicts in the region." He said Israel failed to show "any responsible cooperation as it continues to resort to military force as a tool to achieve its security," thus hampering efforts to achieve a two-state solution.
Abdullah urged the Palestinians and Israelis to resume negotiations to reach a comprehensive settlement.
He, meanwhile, said the conflict in Syria has "serious implications on regional and international peace and security".
Abdullah said the Syrian government and opposition must return to the negotiating table based on the communique of Geneva I conference, which called for establishment of a transition authority with executive powers.
"The two parties should approach these negotiations in a positive manner by focusing on areas of consensus and avoiding negative aspects" to save the Syrian people from further suffering and tragedies," he said.
Oman, he added, fully supported UN special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura.
On Yemen, Abdullah extended Omanآ’s support to President Abdo Rabbu Mansour Hadiآ’s efforts to push forward the political process based on the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism.
He welcomed an agreement signed by the Yemeni government and the Houthi Ansar Allah group, and urged all political parties to renounce violence and uphold the national dialogueآ’s outcome.
