
Both the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League urged the warring sides in the Syrian conflict to commit to a ceasefire and a halt to violence and killing during the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.
The secretaries-general of the OIC, Iyad Madani, and the Arab League, Nabil Al-Araby, jointly called on Syrian government forces and their opposition to answer to the calls, "in preservation of the lives of Syrians, to ease the suffering on the people and to allow the entry of relief organisations." They also called on regional and international parties, committed to the matter, to back their calls and to encourage the ceasefire
