Security forces were successful in securing the Egyptian street during the first anniversary of the dispersal of Muslim Brotherhood's sit-ins, which falls on August 14, Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim said
Speaking to MENA, Ibrahim said he reviewed a comprehensive security report Saturday on the performance of policemen in the past 72 hours and their active deterrence of MB-plotted terror practices.
The terrorist MB plots included the disruption of public utilities as security bodies found and dismantled dozens of locally-made bombs that were meant to intimidate citizens, Ibrahim said.
August 14 will always be an eternal memory of the 114 policemen who were killed during the events that followed the dispersal of the sit-ins that ran until August 31, he said.
On 14 August 2013, security forces ended two MB sits-in that lasted for several weeks at Cairo's Rabaa Adawiya and Giza's Nahda squares, leaving hundreds dead. The sitters-in were demanding the reinstatement of Islamist president Mohamad Morsi, who was toppled on July 3 in a popular uprising backed by the army. (
