Khalifa bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Under-Secretary of the Department of Transport, DoT, received the Mayor of Astana, Asset Issekeshev, at the DoT headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

The delegation included Khairat Lama Sharif, the Kazakhstani Ambassador to the UAE, along with other members who are currently visiting the UAE.

The visit fostered co-operation between Abu Dhabi and Astana and introduced the delegation to DoT’s experience in developing the transport sector in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. It also offered both parties the chance to discuss co-operation opportunities and experience and exchange knowledge in the field of transportation and its infrastructure to improve the quality of services offered to the society.

Through a presentation, DoT discussed its legislation, as well as its organisational and regulatory role in the transportation sector. In addition, the delegation was introduced to the Surface Transport Master Plan in Abu Dhabi and the developmental projects that are associated with it to create a sustainable and integrated transport network, support the local economy, and fulfil the expanding demands of the increasing population. This will lead to making Abu Dhabi one of the best places to live, work and visit in the world.

The two parties gave assurances that this visit will effectively assist in strengthening collaboration on transport and roads network. They will also benefit from the exchange of experiences and knowledge in transportation and benchmarking as part of continuous efforts dedicated to improving the transport sector, they affirmed.

It is worth mentioning that Abu Dhabi signed a MoU with Astana earlier this year, with the aim of enhancing co-operation opportunities in different fields such as public services, transport, infrastructure, facilities, urban planning and implementing projects related to community services and sustainable development.
