
The Special Tribunal for Lebanon Tuesday issued new arrest warrants for Salim Jamil Ayyash, Mustafa Amine Badreddine, Hassan Habib Merhi, Hussein Hassan Oneissi and Assad Hassan Sabra, following the prosecutor's submission of a consolidated indictment. The STL in a statement said it has now requested that the Lebanese authorities act on these new arrest warrants. International arrest warrants will also be provided to Interpol for circulation in other countries. The charges against the five accused - said to be members of the Lebanese Hizbollah - are involvement in the killing of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri in a bomb blast in Beirut. The STL's headquarters are in Leidschendam on the outskirts of The Hague, and also has an office in Beirut, Lebanon. Its primary mandate is to hold trials for the people accused of carrying out the attack of 14 February 2005 which killed 22 people, including Rafiq Hariri, and injured many others
