After one Lebanese soldier was killed by unknown gunmen, more than 35 Syrians were arrested in raids carried out by the Lebanese Army in the outskirts of Bireh and Khirbet Daoud in Akkar region, Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) said Friday.
The NNA said on its website that the army has been patrolling the region and setting up checkpoints at crossroads since the killing of the soldier in a bid to identify and arrest the killers.
Earlier in the morning, a military patrol was targeted by unknown gunmen in Bireh, which resulted in the killing of one soldier and injury of another.
Recently, the Lebanese army has been targeted by gunfire and bombs, most recently in the northern Tripoli city last week when two soldiers were killed and many injured.
