The last group of protesting police, nearly thirty policemen, having observed a sit-in outside the Presidency of the Republic to make heard their socio-professional demands quietly dispersed Thursday afternoon.
Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal has received on Wednesday a delegation representing the protesting police officers to inquire about their demands.
In a statement to the press after the meeting held "according to the instruction of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika," Sellal affirmed that “twelve demands, mainly on the wages, the promotions and the work organization, of the protesting policemen have been handled."
Sellal also announced a meeting next Sunday bringing together the representatives of several ministries and the General Directorate of the National Police to find solutions to the problems raised.
As for the question raised by the protesters on the "shortcomings in the management" in some units and the administration, Sellal stressed that an "inquiry" will be conducted in this regard, recalling "the continuation of the efforts aiming at improving the working conditions of policemen."
He also stressed the importance of dialogue between police officers and their managers to find appropriate solutions to all the issues raised.
