The Parliamentary Committee on Women and Family Affairs on Thursday approved the child rights draft bill and will refer it to the Parliament for endorsement in the next session. Today's discussions of the 140-item draft bill were attended by committee members and representatives of the public benefit societies, head of the committee MP Saleh Ashour said.
He pointed to a parliamentary-government consensus on the bill, saying that it had been initially referred to the Ministries of Interior, Health, Education and Social Affairs and Labour, which all offered their remarks on it.
Ashour noted that the proposed bill is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, just like similar child laws issued in several Arab and Gulf countries.
