Governor of Nineveh Athil Al-Najafi announced Saturday the formation of local brigades in an effort to fight the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) presence in the city of Mosul.
Al-Najafi said in a statement that contacts with allies in the region were ongoing to formulate a measure to counter ISIL presence in Mosul.
He stressed that ISIL's actions in Mosul will not continue forever, affirming that the people were determined to kick out ISIL from the region.
ISIL took over Mosul City, the second largest Iraqi city, on June 10th.
