Member of the "Journey of Hope" boat board of trustees and head of the crew Jasem Al-Rashid Al-Bader on Tuesday applauded the limitless support by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to people with special needs, especially those with mental disabilities.
His Highness the Amir is the major patron of the Journey, Al-Badr told KUNA on the boat's arrival at the Egyptian Mediterranean port city of Alexandria.
He referred to the "Journey of Hope" as a "seven-month lecture on the people with mental disabilities, and the volunteers from the public benefit societies and youth gatherings." He also thanked the Kuwaiti ministries and institutions that supported the journey, such as Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences.
These institutions have caused a quantum shift in social work, turning the "Journey of Hope" from a semi-individual activity to a national organized one, Al-Badr told KUNA.
He also lauded the warm welcome by the Egyptian officials.
"The Journey of Hope enjoys the generous support of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who inspired the relevant bodies to streamline the boat's journey, prompted by his keenness on caring for people with special needs, especially mental disabilities," Representative of Kuwait's Military Office in Cairo Naval Capitan Bashar Abdulreda told KUNA.
He noted that such interest in humanitarian work has been crowned by the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir as a 'Humanitarian Leader' and Kuwait as a "Humanitarian Center." Speaking on behalf of the Alexandria governor, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity Mohammad Osman stressed the strong ties between Egypt and Kuwait.
"The Journey of Hope is a leading experience worth respect," he told KUNA.
