The State of Kuwait is set to play host to the first meeting of GCC ministers of tourism on October 14 as a springboard for launching joint Gulf cooperation in the tourist field.
During the meeting, the tourism ministers of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states are expected to thrash out a uniform Gulf strategy to promote and develop tourism in the Gulf region, a senior official of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said here on Wednesday.
Fresh visions and suggestions involving a single tourist visa and an independent tourist promotion agency will be high on the agenda of the gathering, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry's Tourism Department Samira Al-Ghreib said in a statement.
Bahrain will present a report on the implementation of an agreement for the protection of urban heritage in the Arab world, together with a Gulf crafts union, the official added.
She pointed out that her ministry is interested in involving the private sector in the execution of tourist development projects.
