Cooperation among States of the South constitutes core of the modern-time relations among nations of the globe and significant power for the world's economy, a Kuwaiti diplomat said.
Fahad Mohammad Ismail Hajji, the third secretary of the Kuwaiti mission at the United Nations, indicated that a lot could be done to deepen cooperation among nations of the South, also noting that State-level aid should be invested for realizing sustainable development and eradicating poverty in the developing countries.
The third secretary, who was addressing a UN economic commission, praised the Third International Financing for Development Conference, due in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, next year, urging for including in the agenda the issue of cooperation among countries of the South and employing state-level aid for funding financing development.
Addis Ababa will host the international gathering in July, 2015.
Kuwait hosted the third Arab-African summit in November, 2013, ending with a consensus among the conferees on bolstering cooperation between the Arab and African states. Also during this summit, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah launched several initiatives, one aimed at granting soft loans to African States, including a USD one billion for the next five years.
Hajji affirmed Kuwait's strong commitment to cooperation with States of the South, noting its role in the South-North dialogue within framework of the Brandt Commission.
With respect of the States' level aid, set by the UN at a proportion of 0.7 percent of the national product, he said that the State of Kuwait has exceeded this rate by far, even under the hardest circumstances.
In conclusion, the third secretary re-affirmed Kuwait's unwavering support for bolstering cooperation among "the partners of development" throughout the world.
