Kuwait approves child protection law

Minister of Health Ali Al-Obaidi approved on Tuesday an amended ministerial law number (314/2009) for child protection against abuse and negligence.
Kuwait decided to form the supreme national committee for child protection according to article number 116/2013 to set plans and measures to protect children against all types of abuse, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health and Chairman of the committee Khalid Al-Sahlawi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The law includes taking legal measures against child abusers and provide psychological and social therapy to the children and their families, said Al-Sahlawi.
The committee includes experts from the public and private sectors, members of NGOs, and child-related societies, he added.
Head of the pediatric and premature infants department in the Ministry and Vice President of the committee Mona Al-Khawary said that the committee aims at studying the current child protection laws and legislations in order to develop them.
The committee also works on bringing awareness to people about child rights, she said, adding that the committee will also follow on procedures in child abuse cases with the Ministry of Interior.
