The State of Kuwait since its establishment has a record of being ahead of many other nations with respect of law enforcement and powers' separation, says a Kuwaiti diplomat while addressing a United Nations commission.
Kuwait, since coming into existence till nowadays, is credited for being in lead regarding implementation of the law sovereignty principle, and that is in shadow of explicit separation of basic state jurisdictions, namely these of the judicial, executive and judicial authorities, said Saad Sultan Al-Ajmi, the third diplomat serving with the permanent Kuwaiti mission at the UN, in a statement at a meeting of the UN legal affairs commission.
Such separation of the top authorities is inscribed in the 1961 National Constitution, said Al-Ajmi, also noting that the country's democratic system has guaranteed citizens' freedoms and civil rights.
The Constitution of Kuwait was created by the Constitutional Assembly in 1961-1962 and signed into law on November 11, 1962 by His Highness the late Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. Its pillars are sovereignty of the State, public freedom and equality before the law.
At the international level, the diplomat, Al-Ajmi, called on nations of the globe to be committed to serving the UN basic principles; peace, security, human rights and development.
Law sovereignty law should be implemented by the UN member states through respect for international documents, treaties and covenants, said diplomat Al-Ajmi, also calling for resolving international disputes through peaceful settlements and resorting to international courts.
Turning to the protracted Arab-Israeli conflict, which he branded as a struggle for existence, the Kuwaiti diplomat affirmed that Israel breached international laws with its military strikes on Gaza in July, claiming lives of more than 2,100 Palestinians.
Israel has imposed a siege on Gaza turning it into a "large prison for the innocent who solely aspire to live," al-Ajmi said, also mentioning in this respect other practices such as construction of settlements and judaization of Jerusalem.
On terrorism, he said Kuwait has backed a report prepared by the UN chief as to backing states in the fight against this menace. He also reiterated Kuwait's unwavering commitment to the UN principles and charter.
