Union for the Mediterranean (UfM)
Amman - Petra

Member countries of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) unanimously approved the extension of Jordan's co-presidency for another two years, beginning this month.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs said in a press statement on Saturday that the decision was taken during a meeting for senior officials of the union in Brussels from September 15 to 16.
The decision came in recognition of efforts that have been exerted by Jordan during its co-presidency of the union, along with the EU, and due to the important regional and international role played by Jordan and its distinguished, moderate and credible diplomacy.
The union's member countries praised the distinguished efforts and successes that have been achieved by Jordan over the past two years, including the holding of many ministerial conferences.
The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is a multilateral partnership of 43 countries from Europe and the Mediterranean Basin, including the 28 member states of the European Union and 15 Mediterranean partner countries from North Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Europe. The Union was created in July 2008 as a re-launched Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (the Barcelona Process). The Union seeks to promote stability and prosperity throughout the Mediterranean region.
