Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh said on Tuesday that the legislature attaches great attention to the political parties draft law in keeping with His Majesty King Abdullah's vision to accomplish modern legislation.
Chairing a joint meeting of the House legal and public freedoms and human rights committees, he stressed that the draft should have the largest possible national accord "in a manner so as to ensure an effective (public) participation in decision-making." Tarawneh said the joint panel would open the door wide for various civil society institutions, namely parties and professional associations, and would factor in their ideas seriously before passing the bill in its final form.
Among the proposals aired by parties at the meeting were some about raising the number of founding members of a party to more than 150, stable political parties and elections legislation and removing difficulties the parties face in their interaction with the interior ministry, particularly when it comes to financial spending procedures.
