Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Atef Tarawneh said Jordan's nuclear research reactor project at the Jordan University of Science and Technology near Irbid is a national project that serves the scientific, research, training, agricultural and health sectors.
During a visit to the project accompanied by a parliamentary delegation and Jordan Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Khaled Toukan, he said the project does not pose any environmental threat and adequate safety measures were in place.
Such a project, Tarawneh said, helps to enhance national capabilities and well as infrastructure in the nuclear field.
Toukan said the project is a base that could be built on in terms of science and technology as it will be used for training and research purposes.
