
His Majesty King Abdullah II received at the Al Husseiniya Palace on Wednesday Lebanese Foreign Minister Gibran Bassil.
During the meeting, which focused on the latest developments in the region, the King reiterated Jordan's support to efforts that aim at addressing challenges facing the Middle East and achieving security and stability for its people, especially in the light of the increasing violence, extremism and terrorism.
His Majesty highlighted the strong ties between Jordan and Lebanon as well as the need to further boost them and help Lebanon in addressing various challenges to ensure its unity, security and stability.
On Syria, the King and Bassil stressed the importance of arriving at a political solution that ends the sufferings of the Syria people and increasing international support to countries hosting Syrian refugees, mainly Jordan and Lebanon, which now host the largest number of those refugees.
The Lebanese minister conveyed to His Majesty the greetings of Lebanese Prime Minister Tamam Salam as well as Lebanon's appreciation for Jordan's role under the King's leadership to achieve security and stability in the region and for the King's efforts to enhance religious dialogue and tolerance and combat violence and extremism.
Bassil said that Lebanon was keen to enhance cooperation with Jordan and maintain coordination and consultations on various issues of common interest.
The meeting was attended by the Royal Court chief, the foreign minister, the director of the King's Office and the Lebanese ambassador in Amman.
