Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Nasser Judeh, on Sunday, took part in an international conference dedicated for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip following the massive devastation the coastal territory saw by the recent Israeli offensive.
The gathering was opened in Cairo today by Egyptian President Abdul-Fattah el-Sisi and attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and more than 80 foreign ministers, secretaries general and directors of donor, regional and international organizations.
Judeh said Jordan did not spare an effort to provide all forms of support to the Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian lands and in the Gaza strip, noting that a Jordanian field hospital is still providing medical services to more than 1 million Gazans.
He said a massive repetition of destruction could only be prevented through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in line with the two-state solution.
The minister called for an end to the Israeli violations against the Al-Aqsa mosque including the use of force against Muslim prayers and allowing Jewish extremists to violate the sanctity of the mosque.
He praised the Egyptian initiative that led to an end to the recent Israeli aggression against the Gaza strip as well as a ceasefire, and voiced hope that direct negotiations would follow to achieve a sustainable ceasefire.
The foreign minister also took part in the Arab Peace Initiative meeting that was held in Cairo in the presence of the Palestinian president, the Arab league secretary general and members of the initiative.
Judeh also met with the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and discussed means to ensure the success of the conference, resume Palestinian-Israeli talks and coordinate on challenges facing the region, mainly terrorism.
