Amman - Osama Arrantissi

The Jordanian government has prevented Abu Imad Rifai, representative of  Islamic Jihad, from entering Jordan on Monday to participate in meetings of the National Council elections committee. Ahmed al-Modalal, a leader in Islamic Jihad, asked the Jordanian government to reconsider their position and to allow the representative of the movement entry into Jordan to participate in the meetings, stressing that there is no problem between Jihad and the Jordanian government. Al-Modalal told Ma'an, the Palestinian news agency, that contacts are being established to allow the Jihad representative to come to Jordan. The committee tasked with preparing the election law of the Palestinian National Council began its work in Jordan this morning. The day began in Amman with a meeting of the Palestine National Council headed by Salim Zanoun. The meeting will discuss the preparation of the law on which the National Assembly elections will be run in the homeland and the diaspora in addition to the consent of the hosting countries to hold elections. The meeting, according to Dr Yasser Wadia president of Palestinian independent figures and member of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) will discuss the electoral law and whether it will be on the basis of proportional representation, and will discuss the position of women in electoral lists.  Jordan has once before prevented  the former Islamic Jihad representative  Abu Imad Rifai from entering its territory  according to a message sent by the  head of the Palestinian National Council
